Turn a Composition Notebook into a Beautiful Bullet Journal

by - April 21, 2018
Are you starting your first bullet journal? When I started bullet journaling two years ago, I didn't want to spend any money in case I didn't like bullet journaling, so I found a blank composition notebook to use. Composition notebooks usually don't have pretty covers (mine didn't), so I decided to decorate it so I can have a beautiful bullet journal. You can do the same!

If you are bullet journaling in a composition notebook or any notebook with an ugly cover, you can decorate it to make it look a lot prettier for just a couple of bucks.

You don't have to be using it for a bullet journal either. If you want a pretty notebook for taking notes in school or anything else, then keep reading and I will show you how I turned an ugly composition notebook into a pretty journal.

If you don't know what a bullet journal is, and you are interested in learning more, you can go here to find out more.

When I started bullet journaling, I didn't know if it would work (or if I would like it), so I started my first one in a composition notebook.

I really enjoy bullet journaling now and so I wanted to share with you how you can have a pretty bullet journal even on a budget.

Without further ado, here is how I decorated my first bullet journal on a budget, and you can too!

Supplies You Will Need for Decorating Your Composition Notebook

  1. A composition notebook. (Do I even need to say this one?)
  2. Scrapbook paper, colorful paper, paper with cute patterns.
  3. Washi tape.
  4. Stickers, photos, or anything else you want to add.

How to Turn a Composition Notebook into a Beautiful Bullet Journal

1. Cover the Notebook in Paper

First, I covered my entire notebook in regular, white printer paper. I used two pages, one for the front and one for the back, and they overlapped so there were no gaps. I put a piece of clear tape over the entire seam.

I folded over the corners of the paper and taped them into the inside of the front cover of my composition notebook.

2. Cover the Front of Your Composition Notebook

Next, I picked a colorful piece of scrapbook paper and cut out a piece of paper that was as large as the front cover. I cut around 3/4 of a centimeter off of each edge so the white paper would show.

Then I glued the piece of scrapbook paper onto the center of the front cover of my composition notebook.

3. Add Decorations

I chose to keep my composition notebook simple by adding a single strip of washi tape along the front of my notebook.

You could decorate the front cover of your journal with stickers, drawings, or even photos. Just make sure that whatever you add on, isn't going to fall off easily.
