How is your capsule wardrobe going?

Your Guide to Purses + How to Add Them Into Your Capsule Wardrobe

You need at least one purse in your capsule wardrobe because you have to carry things around in it. Right?

Well, don't worry because I have you covered. In this post, I will walk you through the steps to choosing and then buying your purse.

The steps to picking and buying a purse are relatively easy to follow, and so you should have no trouble picking the perfect purse for your capsule wardrobe.

1. Pick the Color of Your Purse

To do this, look through your wardrobe and see what your base color is. If you have a capsule wardrobe, this should be easy because you probably already know what your base color is.

You should have one purse in your base color, and then you can get a little bit more creative. Black is also a safe color to go with.

My base color is black, so I have a purse in black and then another big color in my wardrobe is navy blue, so I have a navy blue purse too.

Think about how clean the purse will be in a few months. It is best to go with darker colors because you are going to be carrying your purse around with you a lot and setting it down etc. It will be not as clean as it first was a few months later.

I would not go with a white purse unless it has a big print on it like floral or gingham because if not it will start turning grey. You can't wash a handbag! :)

2. The Accent Colors

Accent colors are important. Accent colors are usually the zipper and the other metal components on your purse.

  • Do you have more silver or gold in your capsule wardrobe?
  • What color jewelry do you usually wear?
  • What type of metal is your favorite?

Below are some common types of metal used for accent colors.

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Bronze
  • Brass
  • Rose-Gold

3. The Print and Texture on Your Purse

I would say to have one purse with no print on it, but after that, your purse can become a little bit more fun. When looking at a purse with print on it, the most used color in the print should be one of the colors in your capsule wardrobe.

If you don't know what I am talking about, you can look at the How to Find Your Colors Mini-Guide.

Make sure that the print doesn't look too big or too small on the purse. To figure this out, you can find a mirror, and then stand a little back from it, and see if the purse looks out of place.

Do I need texture on my purse?

Not necessarily, but if you don't have any other textured items in your outfit, then it is a good idea.

A little bit of texture always adds to your outfit! :)

To figure out if the texture on your purse is right, you can do the same as with the pattern. Stand back a little bit from the mirror, and see if the texture stands out from the outfit too much.

4. The Size of Your Purse

Have you ever boughten a purse, and then found out that what you wanted to carry in it doesn't fit?

Yep, it's a big hassle. So to make sure that this doesn't happen to you, when you are shopping for a purse, bring a few items, which you think you might want to carry in your purse.

  • Sunglasses
  • Wallets
  • Notepads
  • Your Planner

These are a few things you might need to carry around with you in your purse, so you want to take them all into consideration when buying.

5. The Shape of Your Purse

Depending on what you are carrying in your purse, should help determine the shape of your purse.

If you want to carry your planner with you, it might not be a good idea to get a circle-shaped purse. And if you always want to carry your sunglasses with you, it might not be a good idea to get a small wristlet.

If you don't want things to fall out, remember that you will want a zipper or flap going over the top of your purse.

A few different types of purses you might consider getting are...

  • A tote bag
  • A handbag
  • An over the shoulder handbag
  • A wristlet

Those are all five of the steps to picking a purse, and now I have a few tips for when you are picking out your purses.

  • When going shopping, wear an outfit which you want to wear with the purse you are hoping to buy. That way when you find one you like, you can find a mirror to see how it looks. :)
  • Look inside the purse before you buy it. To see how much will fit inside and how many pockets are inside too! The outside of the purse may look like it is bigger on the inside than it actually is so now might be a good time to see if some of those accessories you brought with you actually fit. Just remember to take them out again so you don't lose them!

How many purses do you think I should have in my Capsule Wardrobe?

I would recommend having three purses. A big one (Maybe a tote bag), a medium-sized one (an over-the-shoulder handbag is a nice pick!), and a small one (a wristlet works great).

That way when you have a lot to carry you can use a big purse. When you just need the essentials, you can use the medium-sized one. And when you just want to add a little style to your outfit, you can use the small one.

How much would you pay to get a quality purse?

I definitely wouldn't pay over $400 dollars for a purse. You can always find a nice buy for under $200 dollars.

If you are on a budget, then you can probably find something for less than fifty dollars at one of your favorite stores.
