How to Unclutter Your Wardrobe + 3 Day Challenge

Are you tired of never finding that one item you really wanted to wear?

Hmmm. Maybe it is time for a closet makeover.

If you need help uncluttering your closet, then you are in the right place.

In this post, I will give you actionable steps and tips to unclutter your closet so that next time you open it to find your outfit for the day, you can find it right away.

Day 1 - Decluttering

1. Start by opening your closet door and drawers and pull out all of your clothes. Yes, this will actually make your room look messier, but trust me. Your closet will look a lot better afterward.

2. Try each piece on and decide if it still fits. Put all of the clothes that fit in one pile, and all of the clothes that don't fit into a separate pile. In doing this and the following steps, we are going to pare down your wardrobe to fewer pieces so you can get rid of all the clothes you don't wear.

3. Put all of the clothes that don't fit to the side, and we will deal with those later. Make sure that this pile also includes clothing that you hope will fit later. :)

4. Now go through that clothing that does fit and look for holes that can't be repaired, socks without matches, and clothing with stains that won't come out. All of those, you don't need anymore so you can put those in a separate "get rid of" pile.

Day 2 - Organizing

5. All of the clothing you have left should fit and should not have holes, stains, etc. But... do you really like them? Well, that is what this step is for. Go through each item and ask yourself if you like it. If you don't like it, then why would you want to wear it? Every piece you don't like, you can stick in the "get rid of" pile.

6. Now you should have three stacks of clothing: the items that I like and fit well, the clothes that are holey or stained, and the clothes that don't fit. Let's deal with the clothing that doesn't fit. If you like it and are keeping it as inspiration, then keep it, but if not, then you can give it away.

7. The holey and stained clothing can be thrown away or donated.

8. Are you proud of how far your wardrobe has come? Well, you should be! :) All of the clothing you have left fits well and you like. What more could you ask for? Now it is time to take inventory.

Day 3 - Taking Inventory

9. Pull out a few sheets of lined paper. Divide your pages into six sections: tops, jackets, bottoms, dresses, shoes, and accessories. You may decide to combine your tops and your jacket section, but that is up to you.

10. Now decide on a name for every piece that you have in your wardrobe. like "black ankle boots" or "blue ruffle top". Write down every item under its section, and where you bought it from. (For when you want to buy another one.) A great place to keep this would be in your planner or bullet journal.

Keeping Your Wardrobe Uncluttered

11. Now that you have your wardrobe uncluttered, all you have to do is decide how you are going to keep it uncluttered.

Are you going to put away your shoes in their box instead of just dumping them on the closet floor?

Are you going to zip up your jackets so they don't fall onto the floor when you try to take something out?
